Floating Suction Units

Floating suction units are mechanical systems used in large-capacity fuel, petroleum derivatives, and chemical storage tanks to ensure product withdrawal from the cleanest and highest-quality layer of the stored liquid.
By drawing product from the surface layer, these systems prevent sediment, water, and heavy fractions accumulated at the tank bottom from entering the process.

Operating Principle

A floating suction unit consists of a float that moves with the liquid surface and a swivel-jointed pipe connected to it.
As the product level in the tank rises or falls, the suction arm adjusts accordingly, remaining parallel to the liquid surface.
This ensures that the suction point always stays at the cleanest portion of the product.

As a result:

  • Fuel quality is preserved

  • Filtration and maintenance costs are reduced

  • Equipment lifespan is extended

Edopec Engineering Approach

Edopec provides floating suction units specifically designed according to tank type and product characteristics.
The engineering process considers fluid properties, tank geometry, and operational requirements.

Our solutions include:

  • Floating suction systems for aboveground and underground tanks

  • Single or double-swivel mechanical designs

  • Material options including stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel

  • Manufacturing in compliance with ATEX and API 650 standards

  • Installation, commissioning, and performance testing services

Advantages of Floating Suction Units

  • Suction from the cleanest layer of the product

  • Prevention of sludge and water from entering the system

  • Higher fuel quality and extended filtration life

  • Minimal maintenance requirements

  • Long-lasting and durable mechanical design

Efficient and Safe Operation with Edopec Assurance

Floating suction units are a valuable investment in tank operations, contributing to both operational efficiency and product quality.
At Edopec, we prioritize engineering accuracy, international quality standards, and long-term operational safety in all systems.
Each project is designed, documented, and implemented according to the client’s specific requirements.
