Engineered Fuel Storage Terminals

Integrated Solutions for Bulk Liquid Handling

EDOPEC provides comprehensive EPC and EPCM services for the engineering and execution of advanced fuel storage terminals. Our capabilities cover the entire project lifecycle—from FEED studies and detailed engineering to material procurement, site construction, automation, and commissioning of fully operational facilities.

We design and deliver terminals for a wide range of petroleum products including gasoline, diesel, kerosene, and JET A-1, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable bulk liquid handling in full compliance with API, NFPA, and NACE standards.

1. Material Supply & Key Equipment

EDOPEC manages the complete procurement process for all terminal equipment, ensuring strict compliance with technical specifications, international standards, and quality requirements.

Tank Equipment

  • Storage Tanks
Engineering and construction of tanks in accordance with API 650 / API 620, including:

    • Cone Roof Tanks (CRT) for diesel and kerosene

    • Internal Floating Roof Tanks (IFRT) for volatile products such as gasoline

For JET A-1 service, tanks are equipped with Floating Suction Arms to draw product from the cleanest layer of the tank, as successfully implemented in the Freetown and Istanbul Grand Airport projects.

  • Tank Accessories
Supply of certified tank accessories, including:

    • Pressure / Vacuum Vents

    • Emergency Vents

    • Flame Arrestors

    • Gauge Hatches

These components ensure safe tank breathing, access, and operational reliability.

Pipeline & Piping Equipment

  • Loading & Unloading Arms
Supply of top and bottom loading arms for efficient tanker operations, with references at major fuel storage terminals.

  • Filtration Systems
High-performance filtration systems designed to maintain product quality, including:

    • Basket pre-filters on pump suction lines

    • Coalescing filter / water separators on discharge lines

  • Pumps & Valves
Engineering of pump stations equipped with:

    • Transfer pumps

    • Loading pumps

    • Slop pumps

Integrated with automated valve systems for precise and reliable process control.

2. Loading & Unloading Islands

Our loading and unloading island designs prioritize high throughput, operator safety, and environmental protection.

  • Operational Flexibility
Islands are designed to handle multiple products and configured for top or bottom loading, with optional vapor recovery systems to reduce VOC emissions.

  • Safety Systems
Each loading bay is equipped with:

    • Overfill protection systems

    • Grounding verification units to prevent static electricity discharge

    • Local Emergency Shutdown (ESD) controls

Access gangways are provided to ensure safe operator movement between tanker and gantry.

3. Fire Fighting & Earthing Systems

Safety is the core design principle of all EDOPEC fuel storage terminals. We implement multi-layered protection systems to safeguard personnel, assets, and the environment.

Fire Fighting Systems (NFPA Compliant)

  • Water & Foam Supply
A dedicated firewater storage tank and pump house equipped with:

    • Main fire pumps

    • Jockey pumps

    • Diesel-driven standby pumps

Foam concentrate is stored in bladder tanks and proportioned into the firewater system.

  • Tank Protection
    Storage tanks are protected by:

    • Cooling rings to prevent shell overheating

    • Foam chambers to suppress surface fires

  • Area Protection
Loading islands, pump stations, and manifolds are protected by:

    • Foam monitors

    • Sprinkler systems

    • Deluge systems

Earthing (Grounding) & Lightning Protection

  • Installation of a comprehensive earthing grid interconnecting:

    • Storage tanks

    • Pipelines

    • Steel structures

    • Mechanical and electrical equipment

This prevents static electricity accumulation and ensures equipotential bonding.

  • Lightning protection systems installed on tanks and tall structures safely dissipate lightning strikes into the earthing grid, eliminating ignition risks.

4. Automation & SCADA Integration

Modern fuel storage terminals rely on advanced automation systems for safe, efficient, and centralized operation. EDOPEC designs and implements fully integrated SCADA-based control systems tailored to each facility.

Control System Architecture

  • Tiered control philosophy enabling operation from:

    • Field level (local control panels)

    • Electrical rooms (PLC / MCC panels)

    • Central control room (SCADA)

This structure ensures flexibility, redundancy, and operational reliability.

Centralized Control & Monitoring

From SCADA workstations, operators have full real-time visibility of the terminal via graphical mimic diagrams displaying:

  • Tank Farm Status
Data from Automatic Tank Gauging (ATG) systems, including:

    • Product level

    • Temperature

    • Volume

    • High-High / Low-Low alarm statuses

  • Pump & Valve Status
Live monitoring and remote control of pumps and Motorized Valves (MOVs).

  • Process Data
Real-time flow rates, pressures, and temperatures from field instrumentation.

Safety System Integration

Critical safety systems are fully integrated into the SCADA environment, including:

  • Fire & Gas Detection System (FGS)

  • Emergency Shutdown System (ESD)

  • Impressed Current Cathodic Protection (ICCP) system for remote monitoring of corrosion protection performance

Inventory Management

The SCADA system incorporates ASTM tables to automatically convert observed volumes into net standard volumes, enabling accurate inventory control and operational reporting.
